The altar is where we encounter God, but altars do not build themselves! God expects us to build altars or memorials of what He has done in our lives and He wishes to meet with us as we put away distractions and anything that holds us back at these places. Will we empty ourselves and remember Him?

In order for the people of Israel to take a hold of their promise, the covenant with God had to be re-established. The new generation under Joshua that had grown up in the desert had seen God work miracles day in and day out, and at the verge of the promised land they chose to be cut and enter into their promise!
